Vancouver 2010 Olympics- Go World!

They’ve finally arrived! (Well, we’ve been waiting and waiting for the games to begin, it’s been 7 years since Vancouver won the bid!) With all the TV and Internet ads prepping us for the world’s greatest sporting event, (I prefer Morgan Freeman’s GO Visa to Donald Sutherland’s CTV Believe campaign) it’s no wonder that we are pumped for Hockey, Speed Skating, Luge, Skiing, Snowboarding, Ice Dancing and all our other favorite winter sports! A team  of Luello buyers visited Vancouver recently and took some photos of the famous Olympic rings (see below). The juicy gossip right now is WHO will be the final torchbearer before the opening ceremonies. We know it’s not Arnold Schwarzenegger (??) because he already carried it this morning! The VANOC has been very hush hush regarding the ceremony itself, and the CEO John Furlong has denied rumours that hockey legend Wayne Gretzky will do the honours- but he’s not saying much else.  So far, many famous Canadians, athletes, politicians, writers, musicians, activists, etc. have taken their turn. NBA star Steve Nash, Grammy-Award winning crooner Michael Buble, and Academy-Award nominated director Jason Reitman are a few of the thousands of people who have carried the torch, in the longest, most expensive relay in the Games’ history. As for the Opening Ceremony, a secret dress rehearsal went down, but there were so many people involved that a lot of it leaked to the media through cell phone cameras and word of mouth. Word is Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado, Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell were all there… but no Celine Dion, really how could they skip out on the chest-thumping? GSP looking good in GQ

UFC fighter and GQ Model? 2009 could not have ended better for UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. He successfully defended his title twice, was named for the second consecutive year the Rogers Sportsnet “Canadian Athlete of the Year”, was named the runner up to Sidney Crosby for the Lional Conacher Award, (the first time a MMA fighter has ever been nominated) AND he won various “Fighter of the Year” awards by several prominent sports publications (Sports Illustrated, Inside MMA and at the 2009 World Fighter Awards). Fast forward to February 2010 and GSP is featured for Affliction in GQ Magazine (Below GSP photographed in the Affliction Silent Leather Jacket, available at Luello) and is training for his  upcoming headlining fight at UFC 111 (March 27).

UFC fans could not ask for a more exciting fight then GSP vs. Dan “the Outlaw” Hardy. Hardy has never lost in a UFC fight and Georges is coming off a six-fight win streak. Both fighters have acknowledged the other’s strength and hunger for the win.

“Dan Hardy is a very worthy contender and I’m preparing for a war,” said St-Pierre. “He is hungry for the title and that makes him very dangerous, but I’m just as hungry to keep the belt and I am going to train and fight like I am the challenger on March 27th.” (UFC.com).

This will also mark the first time that GSP has been able to wear Affliction into the cage in more then a year. Since Affliction and Dana White made up, fighters have been given the go ahead to wear the popular brand, and considering GSP is an Affliction household name, we’re sure he will rock a new walkout tee.

Luello had promised to give 10% of all purchases to a reputable foundation serving the victims of the horrific earthquake in Haiti. We decided to double that donation and have given 20% instead to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti Earthquake fund.

If you are Canadian (which we are!), the Canadian government has promised to match each donation up to $50 Million… so we were even happier to make our contribution.
